School of Rock’s Songwriting Program is designed to teach intermediate and advanced students the fundamentals of songwriting and arranging in an interactive group-class setting. Through exercises, activities, and hands-on experiential training, students will learn to articulate and express creative ideas, overcome writer’s block, analyze songwriting techniques, collaborate with others, and accept constructive criticism, all while writing and arranging their own original songs.

School of Rock offers Bass Lessons for Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced musicians.

Please note our Fall/Winter Season show is the 1st weekend of February (1st and 2nd). Please reserve both Saturday and Sunday until we confirm our performance show schedule in September.

One hour weekly group rehearsals with 30 minute or 45 minute private lessons.

Beginner Class students (Ages 7-10) will be rotating songs in the season so you can switch classes if needed throughout the season as long as the instrumentation aligns. We encourage students to try different instruments throughout a season to allow for a more enriching experience and understanding of musician fundamentals.

Opening Act Class students (Ages 11+) have moved on beyond the very beginner classes and have a selected a focus instrument(s) in the next level before entering the 2 hr themed performance program and their band will act as a themed opener for respective season shows listed in the Performance Program. Please note some exceptions for age will be made depending on child's progress but this is up to the discretion of instructor/music director.

House Band is the elite group of performers that rehearse weekly and perform various concerts throughout the community.

Pledge for Participation in the School of Rock Mamaroneck House Band As a House Band member, I promise to make it to all rehearsals on time and prepared to play. I promise to make it to all performances on time and help load in and load out gear if requested and appropriate. I promise to take it on myself to learn all music and be ready to step in for other members if need be. I promise to have a positive attitude and set a good example to other students and to be an ambassador for the School of Rock.

I promise to get approval from the House Band Director for performance conflicts no less than a month in advance. I promise to get approval from the House Band Director for rehearsal conflicts no less than a week in advance. I understand that attendance at a rehearsal before a scheduled gig is mandatory for participation in the performance. I understand that if I miss a rehearsal or performance without prior approval then I have forfeited the right to be in House Band immediately and expulsion is at the discretion of director. I understand that being a member of House Band is a great privilege and TEAM responsibility. Parent communication/ interference related to input on rehearsal structure, casting, and song choices is strictly prohibited and also qualifies for removal from House Band. Code of Conduct House Band members are expected to behave in an appropriate manner at all times inside the School of Rock and at SoR related events.

That means we expect you to: 
- Make your School of Rock music a top priority, and always show up to rehearsals and concerts fully prepared 
- Always attend lessons, rehearsals and concerts 
- Demonstrate positive behavior in rehearsals and lessons and offer help to other students when requested 
- Have respect and compassion for staff and other students 
- Communicate openly and honestly with directors and School of Rock management 
- Be responsible for load in and load out for all shows and concerts 
- Learn music quickly and accurately, and be willing to learn a new part at the last minute if needed 
- Be focused and ready at all times during rehearsals and concerts

I have carefully read the pledge and code of conduct. I clearly understand and voluntarily sign the pledge to participate in the House Band at the Mamaroneck School of Rock.

Show Registration Fee: This $125 fee will be processed at some point before May 15th to cover venue costs, show program, and a collectible commemorative dog tag. The fee also helps cover casting and administrative processing costs, as well as staff for the show dates. For two student family registrations, the fee is $175. For 3 students, the fee is $200.

Spring Schedule: Spring Season school closings include Easter/Passover Weekend and Memorial Day Weekend. If you intend to be out of town and unavailable for rehearsals during the Feb and April breaks, please notify us so we can plan and staff accordingly keeping in mind we still offer remote lessons via our online proprietary platform. We aim to have at least 4 private lessons and 4 rehearsals per month. After season show, lessons will continue through June and we encourage throughout the summer.

Rehearsal Absences (missed, late arrival, early departure): Please note the above rehearsal dates with holiday closings - school calendar posted on our website mamaroneck.schoolofrock.com. If your child will be arriving late, leaving early, or missing a rehearsal, please email our staff at least three days in advance. This helps our Show Directors run their rehearsals efficiently. Please note that excessive missed rehearsals will result in fewer songs overall, or may result in songs being recast. Remember that for every song your child is cast on, there are several more kids on the same song. It is simply not fair to the other kids to continually have to postpone running that song.

Casting Songs: Your child will be cast on 1-3 songs to start and they should be aware of the material they have been assigned to learn in lessons. Song casting is always posted for staff and instructors to reference in the school. Students are expected to show up at their rehearsals prepared with instrument gear and folder, along with showing progress, and should be working on their songs at home and with their instructors. Show Directors will cast a student on additional songs only when they have their initial songs down. If a student is continually unprepared on a certain song, and the Show Director has talked to the student and the student’s instructor about the song to make sure it is in his/her ability to play, the Show Director reserves the right to cast another student on the song.

What does your student need for rehearsals?

We require students to protect their ears and bring their own ear plugs (we do have disposable ones in-house but cannot always guarantee availability, they are two dollars per pair of disposable plugs). Guitar/bass students are also required to bring their own labeled guitar tuners, guitar cables and picks. Drummers should have their own sticks. Singers should bring their own lyrics. A refillable water bottle is also suggested.

Students are also expected to purchase their own sheet music for assigned songs or we use the Method App. Instructors will help with directing students to the correct materials for purchase in private lessons.

Presence in the rehearsal room is required throughout rehearsals, learning the material is just as important as playing the material. Casting changes can be made at any time during rehearsal. If you are not in the room, you will miss opportunity to be cast on new songs. In an effort to increase student engagement in rehearsals, cell phones may be collected at the beginning of every rehearsal and returned upon dismissal. Meals and Breaks: Students 12 years of age and over are allowed to leave campus for a 10-15 minute break with a signed off-premise permission slip. No exceptions for students under 12.
